Built start to finish in our Chicago workshop, this limited-edition Recon Mashup is pure MIL-SPEC muscle. We chose Black XPAC for the exterioran advanced super light, multi-layer laminate engineered for extreme water-resistance and abrasion toughness. Inside, the Fire ECOPAK EPX Blaze Orange liner adds a burst of color with the same uncompromising waterproof performance. Every panel is cut, stitched, and seam-bound to keep gear protected when the weather turns.

Three imported AustriAlpin COBRA quick-release buckles lock it all down. Each buckle is precision-forged in Austria, rated to hold over 1,000 lbs, and together represent more than $90 in hardware alone. Overkill? Absolutely. Thats the point.

From the reinforced flap to the mil-spec webbing and water-resistant YKK AquaGuard zippers, every detail is built to outlast the mission, whether thats a downpour commute or years of hard travel.

About the Strap:

Search the field. Survey the terrain. Or hell, just take it to the corner coffee shop. The Recon MashupEdition is a suitable tool for any mission. This new collision of the Recon and Vicious bags sports the Vicious’ best designed closed-cell foam padded strap. But we made some improvements to it. Many customers told us they were ‘righties’. Many told us they were ‘lefties’. In the past the Vicious only served one. Our team set out to design a removable padded strap that can be used byboth.This uber comfortable, adjustable padded strap has a 2″ Matte Black D Ring that (for the first time at DEFY) helps you quickly and precisely adjust your strap length, then get on with your mission. It’s also great for hanging water bottles from. Each strap has ample MIL-SPEC MOLLE webbing that’s perfect for hanging your gear from. With the Mashup 2.0 Strap we made a slight tweak that most will never see, but all will appreciate. The strap adjustment system cleverly keeps excess slack from flailing about.

If you’re looking to carry the Mashup by the top handle on a regular basis, we’d recommend you try the Mr. Gripper Leather Handle. You can also completely take off the shoulder strap and store it inside the bag if you carry it by the top handle regularly.

What is X-PAC?

Not to be mistaken with the WWF wrestler, X-Pac is a composite fabric comprised of multiple layers laminated into a single sheet. The layers in the standard pack cloth consist of a nylon face fabric, a polyester X-Ply mesh, a waterproof film and light taffeta backing with a water-resistant coating. Developed and distributed by the sailcloth makers Dimension-Polyant, the company discovered that much of the technology they had developed for making specialized racing sails was also capable of producing a unique bag material. A good sail needs to be as light as possible, whilst strong enough to withstand the forces running through it. To retain its intended shape the fabric needs to be stable across all dimensions. It also needs to survive the elements by not absorbing water and being resistant to UV. With these properties, and with the fabric being relatively accessible, its no surprise that cottage industry bag makers jumped on board. In particular, the waterproofness and structure of the fabric was far greater than other lightweight materials used at the time, such as silnylon. The waterproof film provides waterproofness up to 200 PSI, which means packs are pretty much rainproof and dont gain weight whilst hiking in the rain.

About the Storage:

The interior of the bag has a fully padded, back and front, closed-cell foam computer section that perfectly fits a 13″ MacBook. There are two easy to access pockets and an interior gun hook for key storage.
